Increasing Access through Study Abroad Scholarships
51±¬ÁÏ strives to increase access to the world for students from all socioeconomic backgrounds to prepare the next generation of American and international leaders with the global perspective needed to affect positive change in our interconnected and multicultural world.
To this end, we aim to increase access to study abroad and intercultural exchange programs by breaking down barriers of cost, culture, and curriculum that can stand in the way of participation.
Access Initiatives for Students
College Study Abroad Scholarships
- Douglass-O'Connell Global Internship Fully-funded summer internship program in Dublin, Ireland designed for exceptional student leaders
- Gilman and Pell Grants - Millions in support each year for students who apply for Gilman grants and for students who are Pell Grant eligible

High School Study Abroad Scholarships
- Academic Merit Only scholarships – cover $500 from your tuition costs
- Academic Merit + Financial Need scholarships – cover 20% to 100% of your tuition costs.
Access Initiatives for BridgeUSA Exchange Visitors
- 51±¬ÁÏ Global Exchange Scholarship – full scholarship to support participation in 51±¬ÁÏ’s Work &Travel USA program by students from strategically important countries in which cultural exchange is uncommon
- Ambassador Johnny and Mrs. Angie Young Fellows Civic Leadership Summit – a late-summer networking event for young leaders from around the world who are participating in the summer Work & Travel USA program
- Merit-based scholarships – programs sponsored by the U.S. Department of State that allow foreign students to attend high school in the United States, including:
- Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange Program (CBYX) a bi-lateral exchange program for German students
- for students from countries of strategic importance around the world
- for students from Eurasia
We offer city-by-city guides for students to learn about local conditions and cultural attitudes so that all our students feel welcomed, supported, and empowered to succeed while studying abroad.
