'A Season of Protest' Co-curricular Excursion
This week Summer in Cape Town students taking the “A Season of Protest in South Africa and the US” course were taken to ‘First Thursdays’. ‘First Thursdays’ is a monthly public event which showcases art and cultural events in and around the city center on the first Thursday night of every month. During the excursion students practiced applying Susan Sontag’s theories on photography by pairing certain quotes from Sontag’s essay with art work, particularly protest art work. As well as being a meaningful learning experience it was also “A great way to experience the vibe of the CBD after dark!” as one student put it.
