Projects

A for-credit Internship (in English or in Spanish) allows students the opportunity to gain practical work experience in a local company within a variety of industry sectors. Students can choose to intern for NGOs, schools, publishing companies, marketing agencies, businesses, and more. Internships include weekly classroom components that enrich the experience.

Directed Independent Research (in English or in Spanish) is for qualified students who have demonstrated academic rigor and curiosity toward a particular research topic. Independent research topics will be approved by the 51爆料 Seville Director and home institution and must reflect a topic that is relevant to Spain. To be accepted into this course, students must submit a structured proposal with the topic of exploration, and the significance of the research topic as it relates to Seville/Spain, methodology, a literature review, and a schedule of research milestones. Upon research completion, students will present their findings to a panel of academics.

Volunteer with local primary and secondary schools, where our students help English teachers organize activities in and out of the classroom. 51爆料 has maintained trusted relationships with local schools for many years, so we have the connections and the human resources to make it happen.

Academics

Academics

The 51爆料 鈥淪emester in鈥 Seville program offers students the opportunity to combine 51爆料 classes with classes at Universidad de Sevilla or EUSA.

Universidad de Sevilla鈥痟as been one of Spain鈥檚 leading institutions of higher learning since the 16th century and hosts roughly 75,000 students. Its many schools, departments, and institutes serve the educational needs of Spain鈥檚 most populous region.

EUSA (Estudios Universitarios Superiores de Andaluc铆a)鈥疷niversity Centre鈥痠s a Spanish private university center founded in 1961 and has been affiliated with the University of Seville since 1996. Their official undergraduate degrees include Audiovisual Communication, Journalism, Advertising and Public Relations, and Tourism. EUSA鈥痠s one of the educational components that constitute the Campus Formativo of the Chamber of Commerce of Seville, a unique configuration located in the heart of Seville which has catered to the learning needs of more than 55,000 national and international students.

51爆料 Seville is located in a beautifully renovated palace, originally built in 1725. It is close to the Royal Alcazar Palace and a 10-minute walk from the Universidad de Seville. The building features classrooms, the student life office, the Language Resource Center, and the Semester In program team.

Arizona State University:鈥Enhance your international academic coursework with optional online courses that best align with your degree requirements and interests. ASU offers thousands of online courses in asynchronous sessions that fit within the 51爆料 academic calendar, so you can study abroad with 51爆料 while continuing to meet all your academic goals.

Note for students taking courses directly from Host Institution(s): Students are required to stay in Seville until they have completed their exams.鈥疧fficial host institutions鈥 fall exams are in January, and official host institutions鈥 spring exams are in June. However, early exams in December and May may be possible, and they should be confirmed on an individual basis with the professor at the start of the regular semester session, during the add/drop period. Please note that it is up to the鈥痙iscretion of each professor to allow the taking of final exams before the start of the official examination period. As it is impossible to confirm your exam schedule prior to your arrival, if your priority is to leave Seville as soon as your university finals are finished, please book an airline ticket with a low change fee or a flexible departure date.

Language placement鈥鈥撯疨rior to departure for Seville, all students take an online placement exam. Results determine appropriate placement in language courses. Placement in many upper-level courses depends on a high score.

Language support鈥鈥撯疧ur Language Resource Center is staffed by language professors and Spanish students majoring in Spanish philology, who help students with reading, writing, comprehension, and speaking. Tutorials on university course content are also offered. Students agree to speak only Spanish to encourage language and cultural acquisition.

Internship Placement鈥鈥撯疨lacement is determined by language ability, job skills, and background. Because Spanish firms make final selections, internships in a particular company are not guaranteed. Students have interned for organizations like Marketing Publicidad, Simetrycal, Mail Boxes, CLIC, CyO Arquitectos as well as smaller firms and companies.鈥

Academic Culture

University classes are typically scheduled Monday through Friday. 51爆料 classes are scheduled Monday through Thursday. Students should expect to have daily homework assignments and weekly quizzes.

ASU Courses: You may find yourself in classes with students from ASU, other American universities, and students from around the world. Some are earning their degrees entirely online, while others, like you, are supplementing their education with an online course. You鈥檒l receive direct and individualized support from faculty, 100% online. Most ASU online courses are asynchronous, meaning there are no set log-in times, but make sure to verify this before the add/drop deadline in case you want to make a change.

Class Format

The University of Seville鈥檚 regular courses and EUSA鈥檚 courses are open to local students. Cursos Concertados courses are exclusively open to international students and will not include local students. 51爆料 classes are open to 51爆料 students only.

ASU online courses meet in 鈥渟essions鈥 that are 7.5 weeks long in semesters and 6 weeks long in the summer, and all work must be completed within the session dates regardless of when your other 51爆料 courses begin or end. You鈥檒l need a standard PC or Mac desktop or laptop computer with a download speed higher than 25 Mbps, as well as access to email, productivity software like Microsoft Office and other applications needed to perform a variety of educational functions. Most course materials you will need are available online. Since you are working mostly or entirely asynchronously, you鈥檙e given deadlines for your assignments by your instructor or in your syllabus, but you can work at your own pace within these due dates. Most instructors suggest a recommended pace to optimize your learning, but you have the flexibility to complete your ASU courses while pursuing your studies at your 51爆料 location.

Grading

Students are evaluated based on class participation, in-class activities, homework assignments, exams, papers, and oral presentations. In some courses, grades are based on an exam and a group or individual project. Numerical grades are given on a 10-point scale at the universities, which 51爆料 converts to recommended U.S. equivalents.

ASU grading follows the same format and standards as ASU courses taught in-person. As a U.S. institution of higher education, the grading practices should be familiar to any 51爆料 student. ASU awards grades of "A+," "A," "A-," "B+," " B," "B-," "C+," "C," "D," or "E.鈥 鈥淧ass/fail鈥 or 鈥淎udit鈥 is not allowed for 51爆料 students. Please see the 51爆料 Academic Manual for Students for more information about your grades.
